First off, congratulations on hosting the largest Appleseed shoot in the STATE to date. Twenty-two shooters on Saturday was the highest number that ever attended an event in our state. We had 17 on Sunday, losing four high school age boys from Hemingford for a basketball event in Rapid. We had a few others that we lost over night and had a few walk-ons on Sunday. There were good numbers from Hemingford. Chad and Dane Armstrong, Ryan Hunter, and his buddy Dan, Alliance PD's Pat Conelly and Jerod Hahn from the Sheriff's office were a few that attended. Bob Engelhaupt was in attendance for Saturday.
Our two shoot bosses traveled in from Iowa and, I think, Minnesota. They both drove over 600 miles to instruct. The Appleseed Project pays them for their efforts, but it sounds like that pay will cover gas for their vehicle and a little pocket change. Much like the projects name, "Project Appleseed," the instructors are spreading the seeds of marksmanship and the history of the nation so that future generations might benefit from their efforts. Just as the tale of Johhny Appleseed spreading seeds so that future generations would benefit.
Twenty-two shooters was a good turn out, but I hoped for more. If the Alliance Rifle Club will allow, I would like to work for at least one Appleseed next year. There is interest in a full distance shoot from the State Appleseed Coordinator Matt Gibbs, of North Platte. Matt has been trying for FOUR years to get an Appleseed at his home range where he is the Club Secretary. Thank you for letting us use the venue. I think we caused a couple club members to alter their plans to shoot, and I am sorry for that. Both people got to shoot, but I don't want to cause a headache for the club. We took in $170.00 on Sunday for the $10.00 per shooter range fee.
There are (32) 2 foot by 4 foot OSB backerboards by the building that are the clubs now. Along with a 60 yard long piece of cable used to hold up the backers. If the club wants, cut the cable into lengths to go over the tops of the standing target holders and hang the OSB backers from them.
Thank you for use of the range.
