Stalingrad Match Information

The first Stalingrad Match was held Jan. 29, 2006. It was started by Dan Huss and has prevailed as the "match that begins a new shooting season." The match commemorates the siege of Stalingrad during WW2. The well supplied Germans were attempting to take Stalingrad from the starving and ill supplied Russians. The Russians prevailed by sheer determination and sacrifice.

The theme of the match is to shoot either a German or a Russian rifle of the period. If you don't have one that is OK as you can shoot as a mercenary but try to bring a period rifle. The match is about shooting and camaraderie more than about winning.

We will shoot the match no matter what the weather is like and there will be some food provided to keep us from freezing to death--like the Russians were at Stalingrad.

Jan. 21, 2012 Stalingrad Match at Hoffland

The range will open at 9:00 and the match will start at 10:30. The match will be 40 rounds plus a few sighters. Bring plenty to sight in and shoot the match. I have a few small door prizes for those that shoot authentic rifles. I will make chili and have something to drink. If you want, bring something to share--feel free to do so. I will bring my space heater so we don't feeze to death (if this weather changes).

The theme of the match is the famous battle of Stalingrad. The Germans destroyed the city but in the end the Russians drove them out. It was the beginning of the end for the Germans in Russia. I will bring some historic photos of Stalingrad to show the devastation. If at all possible, try to shoot something that was shot at the battle--like a 98 Mauser or a Mosin Nagant. If you don't have a period rifle, please come and shoot whatever military rifle you do have.

The deal is very laid back. If you get cold, you can go inside and warm up. If you get hungry, you can stop and eat. If you get tired, you can take a nap. The idea is to come out, BS, shoot and have a good time. Hope to see you there!
