An update for November 1, 2010 on Fiebig Range.

We had a work party this past weekend install new target frames for the 25 & 50 yard ranges. They will hold the same target backers as the 100 yard range. 24" X 24". We have found 1/4" plywood works the best. There are extra target backers in a frame holder under the covered firing line if needed.

Also we have closed off the access road between the ranges to drive to the 100 & 200 yard target areas. We would appreciate everyone using the East side of the storage building area for parking. From that area there is a road just east of the parking area that leads to the 100 & 200 target areas. We have seeded the old road area and need to keep traffic off of that area.

Thanks for your assistance with the projects and patience with the work process.

Fiebig Range is open at this time, but will be closed as needed for ongoing finish work on the berms.  Please contact the workers at the range as we can usually accommodate a shooter at 100 yards if we are working on the 50 yard line, etc. We have done the preliminary work on the berms, but more grade work is required before they are finished. There is a new parking area on the east side of the storage building for the 100 & 200 shooting area. This new parking area will allow easier access to the firing line for our members.

Also we have a storage container for the target backers in the cover area so you do not need to bring target backers with you. The backers from the restroom will be removed and we will supply the plywood backers to see how they stand up to use. Thanks to Ray Weisgerber for supplying the storage container and a supply of backers. The cardboard backers did not do very well so we are trying plywood at this time. If someone is doing some remodeling and has some 1/4" plywood paneling they are removing we would appreciate a chance to pick this up for target backers. The 1/4" plywood stays in the frames better than cardboard and seems to last better than cardboard. The backers are 24" X 24".

We have some final grooming to do on the 100 yard range before we can hydro-seed the berm. Anyone that can help with raking the area and filling in the crevices would be most appreciated.

A final appeal to our shooters would be to help with the clean up at the ranges. We want everyone to enjoy the facility and shoot fun targets, but would appreciate everyone picking up the damaged targets ( bowling pins, paper targets, etc. ) and placing them in the trash cans when finished for the day. A little assistance on your part saves the directors from this task to help with completing the range work.

NOTICE
The date for Hydro-seeding has been postponed.

On Tuesday, June 8 we will be Hydro-seeding the 100 yard target area at Fiebig Range. The seed must be watered twice daily to germinate the seeds and help with a good start. We will have to close the range during the watering process for safety of our workers. The watering process will have to continue for approximately two weeks to establish a new growth. Please be patient during this time and if any members can help with the ongoing projects and maintenance at the range, we would appreciate the help.

Any questions please contact Jim Ford at 762-6333 or jeford47@bbc.net
Enjoy the nice weather and take a friend shooting at one of our matches.

Alas the building for storage at Fiebig Range is now complete. I hope everyone enjoys the cover on the west end of the 100 yd. range. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but progress is being made on the range.

Within the next couple of weeks we will be hydro-seeding the berms at 100 and 200 yards. We need a good growth on the berms to stop the erosion that is quite visible at this time and we believe this will help. We are looking for some good dirt that we could use to fill the erosion spots on the 200 yard berm. If anyone has some good clean dirt we could use, please contact me.

I would like to thank all of the members that have helped with the progress we have made on the range. Also the patience of the members allowing us to close the range during the work progress. With the hydo-seeding taking place we will ask our members to be patient with us on closing the range to water the berms and get the new growth a good start. The range will have to be shut down during the watering of the berms for safety of the workers. Please be patient with the workers and if possible lend a hand with this process as we will all benefit from their efforts. We would appreciate any help we can get with watering the berms after the seed is in place. Contact me if you have some free time to help with the watering and moving of dirt on the berms.

If you have any questions, please contact Jim Ford at 762-6333 or jeford47@bbc.net

April 3, 2010

A message to our members about the progress on Fiebig Range. We have placed temporary target stands at 25 & 50 yards. Also found some racks that we can hang bowling pins on for your enjoyment. Please clean up after yourself and keep our new facility as clean as possible. The road into the range was getting rough so we put together a crew to work in some crushed concrete from Bauer Pre-Mix.

We are working on more shooting benches that will be placed at 25 & 50 yards. The new storage building will be erected first part of April, and this will allow us to start work on setting the concrete shooting tables on the 100 & 200 yard firing line. Please be patient with us as we will have to close the range for the construction projects from time to time.

I have noticed that members have placed targets at 50 yards on the 100 yard line. Please do not do this as the bullet will ricochet off of the ground and fly over the berms. I have personally witnessed ricochets on the 100 yard range, and that is the reason for the added dirt berm behind the 100 yard targets. If you witness someone doing this please ask them to move over to the 25 or 50 yard range and utilize the backstop.

A request I have for our members is to locate 1/4" plywood or paneling that we can cut into 24" squares for target backers. We have tried cardboard backers with limited success as it tends to bend and fly out of the stand. The plywood seems to last longer and sustain several hits before coming apart. Contact Jim Ford at 762-6333 or jeford47@bbc.net if you have materials that would help us with this project.

Thanks for everyone's support in building our new range.
